I am an artist and illustrator in Philadelphia. My drawings are a journey of discovery fueled by the riches of the earth and the anticipation of a new beginning. My work is guided by my belief that the world’s vast expanse of diversity is the truest sense of ‘surrealism’ and often the more bizarre, the more beautiful; I explore this concept and stretch found and imagined realities into new, incredibly detailed worlds for reflection and contemplation.
We welcome you to our newest monthly series – The Spiral Salon (still searching for the best name – but you get the idea!). The Spiral Salon will showcase a variety of talent – writers, poets, musicians, and artists – in a lively and casual forum. The shop will be your home for this night of revelry and intellectual stimulation. Light refreshments will be provided.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 10th, 7pm-9pm
Adrian Van Young, Charlotte Pence, and Adam Prince will be joining us in the shop for a night of award-wining prose and poetry. Each author will be reading from their newest Black Lawrence Press publications. Books will be available for purchase the day of the event.
Adrian Van Young will be reading from a new collection of short stories, The Man Who Noticed Everything. Charlotte Pence will be reading from her book of poetry The Branches, the Axe, the Missing. Adam Prince will be reading from his debut collection of stories The Beautiful Wishes of Ugly Men.
Friday, January 4th, 6pm-9pm
For the next First Friday in Manayunk, we are happy to feature artist Nicole Cournoyer. We are hosting a reception to launch the month-long showing of Nicole’s colorful and abstract paintings. All paintings will be available to purchase. Refreshments will be provided. Come on out and support local talent!
I am a physician assistant in bone marrow transplant, but I have been painting for 12 years. At first it was simply a past time, but since I became a healthcare practitioner, it has transformed into my therapy, and release. I’ve devoted my life to helping people with terminal cancer, and the only way that I can grasp the suffering and simultaneous strength that I witness regularly is through art.
My paintings aren’t necessarily dark- I paint adversity, hope, the souls of the people I’ve lost-what they’ve imprinted on me, forever. My paintings are taking over my life and living space, and I’d love to get them out into the world. I want people to see the beauty and honesty that I am so privileged to have a glimpse of every day.
Be sure to visit your favorite Manayunk shops to see what they are up to for First Friday this year!
