Authors Brunch – Enjoy a taste of Philly’s Literary Scene

Saturday, September 20th, 11am-2pm during the Pretzel Park Farmers’ Market

Pull up a chair, enjoy brunch, and get up close and personal with a pack of brilliant local authors. This is your chance to ask questions about writing, publishing, and find out what it means to be an author in Philly’s literary scene.  There will be books, readings, and mimosas. Perfection.

We are so excited to collaborate with the Cynwyd Station Tea Room for this special event.  Please note – the event will take place at the Tea Room : 375 Conshohocken State Road, Bala Cynwyd.  Our special guest Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz will be reading selections of her phenomenal poetry and will be discussing her latest book, Dr. Mütter’s Marvels.  Come have some tea with us.  Books will be available for sale the day of the event and Cristin will sign purchased copies after the reading.  Purchase $10 worth of goodies from the Tea Room during the event and get 10% off your book purchase! 

Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz is author of the nonfiction book, DR MUTTER’S MARVELS: A TRUE STORY OF INTRIGUE AND INNOVATION AT THE DAWN OF MODERN MEDICINE, published by Penguin’s Gotham Books. A exhibition based on the book will open at Philadelphia’s Mütter Museum the same day. She is also the author of six books of poetry — THE YEAR OF NO MISTAKES (2013), EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING (2010), OH TERRIBLE YOUTH (2007), WORKING CLASS REPRESENT (2004), HOT TEEN SLUT (2001) and DEAR FUTURE BOYFRIEND (2000), which are currently available on Write Bloody Publishing — as well as second book of nonfiction: WORDS IN YOUR FACE: TWENTY YEARS OF THE NEW YORK CITY POETRY SLAM, which Billy Collins wrote “leaves no doubt that the slam poetry scene has achieved legitimacy and taken its rightful place on the map of contemporary literature” Her recent awards include the ArtsEdge Writer-In-Residency at the University of Pennsylvania (2010-2011), a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry (2011) and the Amy Clampitt Residency (2013). She lives in Austin, TX, with her two eccentric rescue dachshunds, Max & Alvy.

Join us for a live recording of the Book Fight podcast, which The AV Club has called “an enjoyable chat with two dudes who get passionate about the craft, call out authors on their bullshit, shout-out great lit when they read it, and consume a lot of pop culture.”

Your hosts are Tom McAllister and Mike Ingram, both writers and editors at Barrelhouse.

Special guests include Katherine Hill, author of THE VIOLET HOUR, and Lee Klein, author of THE SHIMMERING GO-BETWEEN and THANKS AND SORRY AND GOOD LUCK. Also, writer/musician Joey Sweeney will join us to talk books &Philly miscellany and also play some music.
