First Friday, December 5th, 6pm – 9pm

rns

For the next First Friday in Manayunk, we are happy to feature artist R. Noel Shaak. We are hosting a reception to launch the month-long showing of Shaak’s brilliant and intricate creations.  All prints & originals will be available to purchase. For the holidays – Shaak’s limited edition greeting cards will also be available in-store.  (Who wouldn’t want an opossum clothed in a striped jumper peeking out behind a Charlie Brown tree?)

Refreshments will be provided. Come on out and support local talent!

Artist Bio: I am an artist and illustrator in Philadelphia. My drawings are a journey of discovery fueled by the riches of the earth and the anticipation of a new beginning. My work is guided by my belief that the world’s vast expanse of diversity is the truest sense of ‘surrealism’ and often the more bizarre, the more beautiful; I explore this concept and stretch found and imagined realities into new, incredibly detailed worlds for reflection and contemplation.

From 2009-2011 I showed and sold work through my fellowship with the Center for Emerging Visual Artists CDP. Through this program, my work displayed at the Moore College of Art and Design—Philadelphia, PA, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts—Pittsburgh, PA and Middlesex County College—Middlesex, NJ. In 2008, I won a juried art exhibition at Mike’s Famous in Symrna, DE. In 2007, 20 pieces of my work were displayed in a solo show at Azure in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia with a capacity turnout. In 1999, I illustrated a book cover for a published poetry book (‘I am simple’). Having completed my fellowship in the CFEVA program, I am now seeking further opportunities to show and promote my art, both locally and afar.

Born in Reading, PA in 1976, I began drawing at two-years-old with incredible attention to detail and have continued ever since. I was recognized at a very early age and find unlimited inspiration for my art in nature. Also a horticulturist, nature is a dominant influence in all of my work.
